Hazard stakes

I got this tip from another turfnet member. We bought a hand held planer and refurbished all of our out of bound and hazard stakes. They look brand new.

March snow

A couple of cool pics of the contrast of snow on the fairways.

croquet update

This week, laser turf  out of Athens, Georgia was on site to float the court and install 15,000' of A-1 bent grass sod. Irrigation was installed last week by our staff and the rough grading was also completed for the fescue sod that will be installed on Friday. In the coming weeks, we will roll, topdress, fertilize and aerify the court to be ready for a june opening. Here are a few pics from the last few days.

Weather

I can't remember the last time we had a stretch of cold weather that has lasted this long. Yesterday it was -4* when I got to the shop with a high of 28*. Tomorrow is a high of 20* with windchills near zero. All the lakes are frozen over and the ground is hard as a rock.  Next week looks to bring some more snow on Monday. We finished out 2017 with 80" of rain. 2018 is starting out frigid, but the weather has not stopped us from completing many projects on the golf course.

Graden verticut

This week we are doing a deep verticut of the greens. The machine we use is called a graden. It has a sand box attached to the top of the machine. As the blades remove the thatch, the sand is then dropped down through tubes to fill the void. This machine will remove about 12% of organic material with the blades we are using. Today was a tough day due to no sun and a light rain. The front nine was completed today and the back nine later this week.

Croquet 2018

It looks like we will be playing croquet in 2018. We are in the very early stages of building a 16,000 square foot green. This court will be built just like a green, internal drainage, gravel and 12" of sand. We will sod the court with A-1 bent grass. We have taken down over 30 trees at the pavilion and are in the process of removing the fescue sod. We will use this sod on the golf course in various places in the rough.

Fairway aerification

We have begun the long process of aerating all the fairways. Hope fully we will get done by the end of this month. Holes that are completed are 4,7,11, 12,13,15 and 17. Please be patient with the crew that are working on certain fairways during this time.
