My dad

I want to congratulate my dad, champions tour player James Mason, on being inducted into the 2016 Georgia golf hall of fame class. The ceremony will be in January at the Atlanta athletic club. He also won the Yamaha Georgia senior open this week in Athens. Way to go pop! So proud of you and your accomplishments.

Nursery

A lot of you are wondering what has become of the old tee on 16. I have decided to turn this into another nursery area. I have sowed L-93 bent grass on half of the area and fescue on the other. I am hoping that this will grow in nicely for some projects around the course come fall . We also installed irrigation to this area over the winter. Stay tuned.

Verticutting greens

We have begun the process of Verticutting greens this week. Now that  the greens have healed from aerification, we will be doing this weekly to reduce the grain in the grass and also to remove thatch. Thatch ties up chemicals and reduces efficacy, making it difficult to get chemicals, fertilizer and water into the soil profile. Verticutting helps alleviate those problems. Once summer sets in we will back off a bit and resume in the fall. This should help speed up the greens a bit due to taking out some of the grain.
